Survey Results

Founded with the mission to drive operational and safety improvements in the Dive Liveaboard and Safari Boats Industry. Our clients use MSI’s due diligence and inspections services to help them manage risk and improve overall maritime safety standards at sea.

The Safety Score is calculated through a combination of industry standard rules and statistical modelling, including expert Surveyor review of vessels. It has been designed to ensure that MSI correctly identifies the vessels that are using a standard set of rules and to provide a prospective resolution for those vessels, on their continuous path to improvement.

The Safety Score rules focus on what is already accepted as “good” industry practice. These binary rules are resolutions-focused and support the industry’s position on good operations. We aim to support all vessel operators on their path to optimal safety and performance.

Star Ratings

The MSI Safety Score provides distinct and clear lines as to the operational performance of a vessel for potential customers.

Poor

(1 Star)

Does not meet standards
Presents unacceptable risks to safety and operations
Inspections reveal major non-conformances or hazards requiring urgent corrective actions.

Unsatisfactory

(2 Stars)

Poor – barely meets minimum standards
Needs improvement
Maintenance is inconsistent, leading to higher risks of failure
Inspections frequently reveal deficiencies or areas requiring immediate improvement to maintain compliance.

Satisfactory

(3 Stars)

Satisfactory – meets minimum standards.
Maintenance practices are basic and functional
Inspections reveal no critical issues, though some minor deficiencies may be identified that require monitoring.

Good

(4 Stars)

Meets standards with minor enhancements
Maintenance practices are reliable
Safety measures are effective and reliable
Occasional feedback or audits might suggest minor adjustments but do not indicate any failure or major shortcomings.

Excellent

(5 Stars)

Exceeds standards
Demonstrates a commitment to best practices, innovation, and proactive measures.
Systems, equipment, or processes are consistently maintained
Audits show zero deficiencies

The MSI Survey provides details as to why a vessel has achieved a specific score as well as actionable mechanisms to improve maritime safety.

For Charters

We recommend charterers use the Safety Score as an initial indicator when considering which vessel(s) to charter.
